Flutter by Wednesday challenge #229

This week's Flutter by Wednesday challenge is to use 3 or more layers on a card, not including the base. And, of course, to include either a fairy of butterfly on the card. Currently Operation Write Home is needing Mother's Day or mom cards, so I made two of these from my current 6x6 paper pad.

OWH MWT recipe mix card challenge

This week's Midweek Throwdown card challenge on the Stars and Stamps blog is to use a recipe. The recipe is 1 embossing folder, 1 border punch or diecut, 2 patterned papers, and 1 ribbon/twine. I love the idea for this challenge!

Echo Park's Scoot 6x6 paper pad

I finished up my Echo Park - Scoot 6x6 paper pad. This one was very fun with lots of cheerful and bright colors. It was perfect for making kids cards for Operation Write Home. My grand total came to 28 cards and although it's not a lot, I couldn't fit them all in one picture because I made so many different style cards this time. I participated in lots of challenges this month, so I think that's the reason for the wider variety of cards.

President's Day Weekend VCMP post #7

The final challenge for the VCMP was to make a glitz card without using glitter. Since most of the cards I make go to OWH, I rarely ever use glitter anyway.

And apparently I can't read directions very well. I went back to challenge #3, which was a selective embossing challenge, and tried it again. This time following the directions, and it turned out just fine.

President's Day Weekend VCMP post #6

The 9th challenge for the VCMP is to use all white/cream with 3 layers. I don't generally make all white cards, but the I love the elegant look. But to pull off a nice card like this, you have to use good heavy weight cardstock. I use a nice thick 100# cover weight paper, so it's a nice quality.

President's Day Weekend VCMP post #5

I combined challenge #7 and #8 together in one card. Challenge #7 is a caffeine challenge and #8 is to use washi tape. I really had to search through my stamp stash for something with a cup on it. But I found this cute stamp by AMuse Studio and added a little yellow Pearl pen to the heart. And I have so much washi tape, but I never remember to use it. So this was perfect for me to pull out older and neglected products.

OWH sketch challenge #160

This is a rare card for me, I colored. But most of it was paper pieced, so it wasn't too bad. However, I don't own Copics, so I just used some colored pencils. This is the same image Sandy used on the last OWHtv, and since I happen to have that exact stamp from Sparkle Creations, I decided to use it in this week's sketch challenge.

President's Day Weekend VCMP Post #4

The 6th card challenge in the virtual cardmaking party on OWH's blog is to include something with wheels on your card. How perfect, since I've been using Echo Park's Scoot paper and it has lots of little vehicles.

President's Day Weekend VCMP Post #3

The 5th challenge for today's VCMP was to use one sheet of 12x12 patterned paper and make 6 cards using OWH sketch #63. I love being able to use an entire piece of paper and leave behind no scraps, so this was a very easy challenge for me. And I now have 6 more cards for my OWH box.

And here are my 6 completed cards.

paper - unknown. I've had it in my stash for many, many years and there is no label on it.

President's Day Weekend VCMP Post #2

I'm struggling with the 3rd challenge, so I skipped it for now and will try it again later. The 4th card challenge is to include something with wings on your card. Since my Echo Park Scoot paper pad is literally down to scraps now, I started a new 6x6.

President's Day Weekend VCMP post #1

Operation Write Home is having a Virtual Card-Making Party on the Stars & Stamps blog this weekend to celebrate President's Day. There are new card challenges posted every 3 hours. Not sure if I'll get to them all this weekend, but I'll try my best. The first one is to make a card using zig zags.

The second card challenge in the VCMP is to use a critter on a card. I used this cute bunny from the fundraiser stamps by My Favorite Things and paper pieced it and the balloons, since I don't color.

MWT State Flag Color Card Challenge

This week's Midweek Throwdown on Operation Write Home's blog is to make a card using the color of your state flag. I live in Washington state and here's the flag.

I used mostly solid colored cardstock for my card with just a small square of patterned paper from Echo Park's Scoot line. Even though I used way more white on my card than is on the flag, I think it works.

Just Flying By

Since Operation Write Home always needs kids cards, I decided to use Echo Park's Scoot paper pad next. My card works for 2 challenges. I used this week's Mojo Monday sketch and it also works for the OWH Midweek Throwdown  challenge for kids cards. I seriously think I'm addicted to the square and rectangle dies from Lil' Inker Designs with the faux stitching on them. I keep reaching for them whenever I make a card lately.

Finished Another 6x6 Paper Pad

I used up the last of the Echo Park - Love Story 6x6 paper pad today. That means, I get to cut into a brand new 6x6. Not sure which one I'll tackle next yet. And I really have way too many. I definitely buy them faster than I can use them. That's what happens when all these companies keep making more and more cute paper.
I made a total of 29 cards this time. And just to explain, my goal isn't to see how many cards I can make from one 6x6 pad. I just can't stand having all those little scraps of paper leftover, so I keep making cards from one pad at a time until it is done.

Update: Here are the links to my 6x6 tutorial,  First Video, and Second Video.

Cards with Critters OWH Blog Skip

For Groundhog's Day, Operation Write Home is having a blog skip all about cards with critters. There are a lot of adorable cards along the way, so go check them out. I even felt inspired enough to do a critter card of my own. I used this cute little bunny stamp from My Favorite Things. The actual stamp has the bunny holding a stick with marshmallows on it. But I cut those off and put a little red heart in the bunny's paw instead. Love cards are always needed for our heroes to send home to their loved ones.

She's gone Headless

While I really enjoy making cards, I am not the one who will pull out a container of Copic markers and color amazing images to put on my cards. I do not enjoy coloring. Mostly because my eyes just don't do well focusing so intently. However, once in a while, I will pull out some colored pencils and lightly color in a simple image. Today, I decided to ink up this headless lady stamp from My Favorite Things since it looked like something I could handle. I colored her skin very lightly with pencils, then paper pieced her dress and heart. I think overall it came together very nicely.
