Sandy is requesting OWHers make one penguin for what has been named Operation Penguin. One of the Brigadier Generals is requesting penguin cards for his team, and Operation Write Home is trying to fulfill that request. Here is my contribution for the General.

OWH - MWT color challenge

Now that the holidays are over, it's time to get back into card-making mode. I worked on a few card kits for CHA next month. Then I decided to do the Midweek Throwdown color challenge. The colors are either Red/White or Green/White. I chose green/white since I'm betting the OWH boxes are flooded with lots of red/white cards for Valentine's Day.

OWH sketch #204 card challenge

Can you believe there are only 3 more days until Christmas? Are you ready? For the most part, I am. I still have a few gifts to wrap, and the kids and I are going to make Christmas cookies tomorrow. Today, my husband and I are surprising the kids and taking them to a local theater production of Annie. I think they will both just love it.

But first, here's my card for Operation Write Home's sketch # 204. It's another fun one!

OWH MWT - Love Cards for Kids

This week's Operation Write Home Midweek Throwdown challenge is to make Love Cards for Kids. I did some paper piecing for a sweet love card for a little girl. And I'll admit I used the same sketch and paper pad for last week's MWT. But it's such a fun sketch, I just had to use it again already.

OWH sketch #203 card challenge

This week's Operation Write Home sketch is just perfect for using up scraps. I bought this 12x12 paper pack a while back, but never finished it all. I generally use 6x6 pads for card making. But occasionally I will use 12x12 paper, especially if I'm making multiples of the same card. I made 6 of these using sketch #203.

Cards in Envy - Icy Hot!

Welcome to the second Cards in Envy card challenge of December. The theme is Icy Hot! Create a card that's either 'Cold" or "Hot". I decided to go with cold for my card. I know my kids would love to see more snow than the little dusting we got last week before the end of the year. Living in Western Washington, we don't get snow often, which is fine with me.

ODBD December challenge - Masculine cards

It's the last Our Daily Bread Design challenge for the year. The theme this month is to make Masculine cards. Every month ODBD will donate up to two boxes of free shipping for Operation Write Home boxes if there are at least 50 entries. Thank you for the support to our heroes, ODBD.
I am currently using a very girly 6x6 paper pad. But I love that there are usually a few papers in each pad that are more gender neutral.

Lavinia Challenge #10 - Anything Goes

I have sad news today. The Flutter By Wednesday challenge is now closed. Life happens, and it was decided to close the doors. Even though I was only on the design team for a short time, I really enjoyed it. There were some super talented ladies on the team with me.
This is a card I had designed for a FBW challenge and I wanted to still post it as a farewell. I decided to go outside my comfort zone and try a new technique. I used some Tim Holtz distressing ink and created the night sky and mountains. The moon was simply a masked circle die cut before applying the ink. I think I need a little more practice at distressing, but overall I like how it turned out.

My Lil Hoot

It is going to be a super busy week for me. My son has a lead role in our church's Christmas musical this year. And the performances are this weekend, so lots of practice this week after school. But I did find a little crafty time while he is still in school to make a card. I used one of the new Hero Arts Operation Write Home fundraiser stamp sets. Super cute owls, right? I paper pieced the bodies and leaves, then colored the beaks and branch with pencils and markers.

OWH sketch #202 card challenge

Hello to another cold autumn day here in the Pacific Northwest. I hope it's a bit warmer where you are in the world. I woke up rather early today and just couldn't get back to sleep, so I decided to play with the new OWH sketch. I had intended to make a feminine and masculine card using the sketch, but there's some pink on the yellow card, so I don't think it's very masculine now.

Cards in Envy - Tag! You're It!

Can you believe it's December already? Yikes! I guess I really need to work on some Christmas shopping soon. But for now it's time for the new challenge over at Cards in Envy. The challenge is to use a tag on your card. And even though Christmas is right around the corner, I'm actually working on Valentine's Day cards right now for Operation Write Home. I try to be at least 6-8 weeks ahead of the holidays.

OWH sketch #201 card challenge

I can't believe it's the first day of December already. Seriously, the days are just flying by lately. It may be because my to-do-list is growing faster than I can check things off of it. But, I'm almost done making my personal Christmas cards. Then, I'll be on to the next item on the list. I used today's OWH sketch to make 4 more Christmas cards.

OWH MWT - Color challenge

Happy Thanksgiving! I'll be heading over to my parents' house today for dinner. But first, I wanted to make a card today. The Midweek Throwdown for OWH is a white on white color challenge. I love the elegant look of white cards, but I'll admit I don't make them very often. Since I"m still working on my personal Christmas cards, I used the current challenge to make another one. Please forgive the poor picture, the bling is clear not black. (It's hard to photograph a white card.)

OWH sketch #200 card challenge

It's a beautiful, sunny day here in Washington. A little chilly, but the sun makes it all better. I've been enjoying looking at the blue sky while I made my card using OWH's 200th sketch. Even though it's well past the time to send holiday cards to Operation Write Home, I still need to make my own Christmas cards. So, that's another card done while doing the sketch challenge.

Happy Wednesday! It's time for a sketch challenge over at Flutter By Wednesday. I always love playing with new sketches, and this one is so fun with the crooked rectangle element.
It's getting quite chilly outside now we're heading toward the end of November. So I chose some cheery and bright colors to remind us all of spring.

Doodlebug - Boys Only 6x6 cards

I finished the Doodlebug - Boys Only 6x6 paper pad by creating 21 cards. I just love the bright and cheery colors. All but 1 card are being donated to Operation Write Home.

Here's a picture of all the cards together.

And here are some individual pictures. The others cards are in previous blog posts.

This card was a CASE from Paper Smooches DT Laurie Schmidlin.

Now, I really need to start working on my own Christmas cards.

Flutter By Wednesday #261

It's another fun challenge day over at Flutter By Wednesday. This week is an OPEN challenge. Anything goes as long as there is a butterfly or fairy on your card. Since I'm still just loving my new fairy stamps, I decided to use another one for my card this week. I even added some Stickles to her wings since this card will be for my niece's birthday and not Operation Write Home. (No glitter allowed on OWH cards.)

OWH - MWT - AnyHero Holiday Cards

The OWH Midweek Throwdown challenge is to make an AnyHero Holiday card and include a message inside for our deployed military. I haven't been quite in the Christmas card-making mood yet. But after making this card, I think I'm ready to start working on my own Christmas cards. Yay for inspiration! Here's my finished card, including the note to our heroes.

Flutter By Wednesday #260

Happy Wednesday! It's time for another challenge over at Flutter By Wednesday. This week the challenge is to use brown on your card, along with either a butterfly or fairy. And for the first time ever, I'm using a fairy on my card. Since making the FBW design team, I figured I needed to start using some fairies. So I searched online for some fairy silhouette stamps to use since I don't color. I found some amazing ones at Lavinia Stamps in the UK. Here is my first card using one of their stamps.

ODBD - November Challenge

It's a new month and that means a new challenge by Our Daily Bread Designs over at Operation Write Home. The November challenge is for Valentines or Love cards, which is perfect because the deadline for Valentine's Day cards is December 31st. I generally stick to making love cards though, because that way they can be used anytime of year.
I'm getting down to just scraps of my Doodlebug 6x6 paper pad, but I had enough to make my card for the challenge.

Welcome to another fun challenge over at Flutter By Wednesday. This week's challenge is to make a card excluding the colors orange and black. And, of course, to include either a butterfly or fairy on the card.
